Chocolate for Charity - HIC Youths Raise Money for Drought Victims in Africa
By HIC Youths:
Red Roses were a trend at the Husseini Islamic Center in Orlando. Every Eid there would be an exchange of roses as token of appreciation, love and celebration between loved ones, however, this year the HIC youths initiated one of the most innovative idea as an Eid gift from the community as a whole to the less fortunate in the horn of Africa.
This Ramadhan we were all very well aware of the devastation and drought that had hit Africa and so the youths felt compelled to offer a helping hand to the needy. It was one of the best "gifts" anyone could receive or give. It was an Eid gift that would hold a lot of value even in the hereafter. Instead of Roses we introduced the idea of donating on behalf of a loved one and as an incentive we added a box of chocolates for the sake of a sweet tooth.
The charity we chose to donate the money to was Comfort Aid International since the founder was close to home and we were familiar with their work and efforts. Comfort Aid's vision is to please our Creator (SWT) only and everything is done for His pleasure. It is their deep rooted belief that He wants us to act, and in some small way, provide others with opportunity we have been blessed with. This year their focus was obviously the hunger stricken region of Africa.
This was a cumbersome project to have taken up during our very first year in office. However with the help of the Almighty (SWT), our very supportive Managing Committee and obviously the entire community who took the concept in really well as they donated very generously we were able to raise a total of $3780.00 for Comfort Aid.
Today as we write this report we hope that someone's life in Africa was saved or changed for the better through the community's donations as that is the real reward. We also hope that we can implement giving charity on a daily basis in our lives so we can achieve the pleasure of our Creator and invest in our souls.

Laylatul Raghaeeb - The Night of Hopes
Laylatul Raghaeeb - The Night of Hopes
1st Thursday Night of Rajab
The Holy Prophet (s.a) has said, that these prayers are:
Means of forgiveness and on the first night in our grave, the Almighty will send the reward of this prayer in the best, enlightened and eloquent form. When inquired will reply, My Beloved! Glad tidings to you that you have found salvation from every hardship and horror. When asked, Who are you?
By God! I haven't seen anyone more beautiful than you, nor heard a word sweeter than that of yours or a fragrance better than you ...
In reply, 'I am that prayer which you offered on the first Thursday of the Month of Rajab. I have come to you, to be your companion in this loneliness, to remove from you your fright and horror.' 'Be lest assured that my shelter will be with you until the blowing of the Horn of the Day of Judgment.'

Fund Raising Joplin, Missouri
Fund Raising Joplin, Missouri
On Sunday afternoon, a killer tornado ripped through a 6 mile stretch Joplin, Missouri city of 50,000 people, slamming straight into St. John's Regional Medical Center. With the death toll currently at 117, the National Weather Service has recorded this as the single deadliest twister in the past 60 years. Thousands of people have been left homeless and with no means of survival. It is time for us to do our part and help our fellow brothers and sisters of humanity.
HIC is urging all members to donate towards this fund so that it can help those who have been affected by this. You can donate at the Finance Desk and we will forward them to UMF.
