Unity Iftar

After an amazingly successful interfaith iftar the prior week, HIC held a unity Iftar on Thursday, June 16th welcoming over 40 of our brothers and sisters from the Sunni community. Guests included Br Atif Fareed (chairman of the American Muslim Community centers, Jerry Muscadin from ICNA and several other prominent members of the Sunni community. The event began with recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by remarks from Sheikh Nuru, and HIC chairman. It concluded with Ramadhan Dua and a sumptuous iftar.
After the event, one of the attendees had this to say on facebook:
"Impressed by the Shia Muslim community's Unity Iftar. Thank you
[...] for the warm welcome and for reaching out to us, may Allah reward your efforts. I hope our Sunni community does such outreach to our Shia friends in the future too. Like the Sheikh said today, we are both part of one Ummah and face many of the same challenges. We have much to learn from each other." Dr. Qureshi
